Squarespace is easily one of the most popular website builders on the market. It offers different pricing plans, but is there an option that fits your needs? Let's go through Squarespace pricing in full, plus the other costs that typically come with running a website.

What is Squarespace?
Squarespace is my favorite tool for building simple, clean websites, and I am not alone, since it already has almost 5 million users worldwide (2024). On Squarespace you can build your own website for your blog or business, most likely even without previous experience. Like Shopify, Squarespace is a fully hosted platform, which means you do not have to worry about site maintenance, technical updates or security. All of that comes straight from Squarespace for a monthly fee.

Squarespace monthly fee
Squarespace prices start from 11 euros per month at their cheapest, rising to 42 euros per month on the most expensive plan. Squarespace offers different monthly plans for different needs, with the cheapest plan of course including only the basic features and the more expensive plans including considerably more.
Squarespace also lets you run an online store, but at least for now I do not think it comes anywhere near Shopify (read more about Shopify store pricing). Let's go through it in more detail below, though.

Squarespace plans and the differences between them
Squarespace offers four different plans and the option to pay monthly or for the whole year at once. Paying annually is of course cheaper.
The cheapest Squarespace plan is Personal, which costs €15 a month, or €11 a month if you pay for the whole year at once. The next plan is Business, priced at €24 a month, or €17 a month when paid annually. The Business plan already includes online store features. The third plan is Basic Commerce at €28 a month or €24 a month. And the fourth is Advanced Commerce at €42 a month or €36 a month. Let's look at each plan, its features and the differences below.
Tip! All Squarespace plans include a free .com domain for the first year if you pay for a whole year of Squarespace at once.
Personal (€15 / month or €11 / month)
The cheapest plan, Squarespace Personal, suits blogs, influencers, personal brands and small businesses, among others. The cheapest plan does not include online store features or analytics and marketing features, for example, but Personal plan users do not necessarily need them. You can add Google Analytics to the Personal plan too, so Squarespace's own analytics view is not essential.
Business (€24 / month or €17 / month + 3% fee on online store sales)
Probably the most popular plan is Squarespace Business, which suits websites of all sizes, both private and business. The Business plan already offers considerably more than Personal. Features include online store functionality (though with the high 3% fee I do not recommend it), analytics, CSS and JavaScript customization, pop-ups and other features.
Basic Commerce (€28 / month or €24 / month. No fee on sales)
If you want to use online store functionality on Squarespace, Basic Commerce is a good solution. It offers the same features as the Business plan, but with a 0% commission on sales, plus you get ecommerce analytics such as sales tracking.
I strongly recommend reading my Shopify posts and looking into the Shopify platform in general if you are interested in ecommerce. In my opinion Squarespace is a sensible way to start an online store if you already have a website on Squarespace, or if you want to start blogging and are considering selling a few individual products.
Advanced Commerce (€42 / month or €36 / month. No fee on sales)
Advanced Commerce is your choice if you have decided to use Squarespace as your ecommerce platform and want to get everything out of your store. It offers, among other things, abandoned cart reminders, subscription products (monthly billing) and more versatile discount code options.
The features are still limited compared to what Shopify offers, but I have built and run an online store on Squarespace myself for over a year. For the Finnish market, the challenges are the English-language checkout (which cannot be edited) and the lack of the online bank payments that Finns favor. Squarespace only offers PayPal and debit and credit cards through the Stripe payment processor.

Squarespace add-ons and their costs
Squarespace offers plenty of built-in add-ons your business may need. These include Squarespace Scheduling for managing bookings and appointments. Squarespace Scheduling also lets you take payments. For example, massage therapists can sell appointments and take payments directly with Squarespace Scheduling.
Another important add-on is Member Sites, which lets you create content just for paying members. This is a very popular feature among online coaches, for example, since you can offer your followers content unlocked by a monthly fee.
A third useful add-on is Squarespace's own email marketing tool. On its own it is not as comprehensive as the tools in my earlier article on email marketing software for online stores, but it works well for bloggers and online coaches, for example.
Squarespace Scheduling for managing bookings
Squarespace Scheduling, designed for managing bookings and appointments, costs the following when paid for a whole year at once:

Squarespace Member Sites
Setting up a members-only site is easy directly on Squarespace with its own Member Sites feature. Paid for a whole year at once, Member Sites costs the following:

Squarespace Email Marketing
If you want to run email automation and marketing directly through Squarespace, the Email Marketing add-on makes it easy. It costs the following when paid for a whole year at once:

Other costs of setting up and running a website
Domain, i.e. your site's address
Other costs of starting an online store include domain costs, i.e. registering your store's address and the annual fee. A .fi domain usually costs about 10-15 euros a year.
You can register a .com domain directly in the Squarespace admin, and it costs 18 dollars a year. If you pay for a whole year of Squarespace at once, the first year of the domain is free!
Once you have registered a domain, it is also worth setting up your own email address (in the form xxx (a) yourcompany.com). This gives your business a professional image. Email server prices vary, but roughly they are about 4-7 euros a month.
Here too Squarespace offers the first year of Google Workspace email free if you pay for Squarespace for a year at once. Definitely worth using!
Finally
If you have been thinking about starting your own website, Squarespace is surely one of the best options. It suits hobbyists, bloggers, influencers and sole traders alike. With Squarespace you can also build larger websites, for example for associations, restaurants and marketing agencies.
